How the script works
Arabic is written from right to left, and most letters join to the one after them. A letter therefore has up to four shapes: on its own, at the start of a word, in the middle, and at the end.
Six letters never join to what follows them. Learning which six saves a great deal of confusion later, so they are worth memorising first.
